A video of a senior Indian doctor calling virus-infected Indian Muslims terrorists has gone viral on the internet.

In the video, Dr Aarti Lalchandani, principal of GVSM Medical College, Kanpur, labels Muslims as terrorists and advises the hospital staff against providing medical treatment to Muslims suffering from coronavirus.

The text accompanying the Twitter video originally shared by Rifat Jawaid @RifatJawaid on May 31 reads: “In this viral video, head of Kanpur Medical College is seen making highly objectionable comments about Muslim #covid19 patients. Accuses CM @myogiadityanath of indulging in Muslim appeasement politics. She was the one who had accused Tablighi Jamaat members of spitting last month.”

Rifat’s tweet was later retweeted by Ashok Swain, who introduces himself as a practicing Hindu and Professor of Peace and Conflict Research, Uppsala University, Sweden. He says, “In any civilised country, she would have been already behind the bars!”

Referring to Muslims in the video, Dr Aarti says, “They are terrorists and we are providing them VIP treatment, exhausting our resources on them, putting lives of our doctors at risk for them, giving them food and paying hotel bills for them. A lot of doctors are being quarantined due to them.”

In the 2-minute and 19-second video viewed almost 100,000 times as of June 1, Dr Aarti says there was only one non-resident Indian (NRI) coronavirus patient at the hospital. He has recovered fully and has been discharged from the hospital. She says the man was a really nice person. She says although the hospital is getting a coronavirus testing kit for 500 to 700 Indian rupees, but one testing kit costs the government 2,500 Indian rupees.

Had there been no Muslim coronavirus patient, she says, the hospital would not need any testing kits. She says the number of coronavirus patients in other communities is zero. She says a patient, Om Prakash, has been admitted to the hospital, but his report has yet to come therefore the hospital does not need to do anything for him for now. She says the hospital is buying coronavirus testing kits just for Muslims otherwise there is no need for testing kits.

When asked by one of her audiences about the attitude of members of the Tableeghi Jamaat, Dr Aarti asks the people sitting around her not to leak the conversation and says she is thinking about taking up this issue with the health minister. During the conversation, Dr Aarti confirms with all those sitting around if anyone is recording her conversation and people assure here no such thing is happening. She says admitting Muslim coronavirus patients to the hospital for treatment is part of the government’s “appeasement” policy.

One of the persons in her audience, who is not seen in the video though, suggests Dr Aarti to give all Muslim coronavirus patients injections (he is clearly talking about poison-filled injections) one by one. She says the chief minister has adopted a policy of appeasement towards Muslims. She says, “Those, who should have been jailed, are being brought here and treated. They are infecting others. Medicines and food are being wasted on them. Manpower is being wasted due to them. More than medicines, our kits are being wasted on them.” She says many of these people threw away the safety kits and fled within an hour or so after they were brought to the hospital for coronavirus treatment.
