Ali Zafar, the star singer who felt ignored by the PCB authorities and compelled by his fans to come up with his own version of the PSL anthem, dropped his motivational song on Sunday evening.

The song became an instant hit across social media platforms and got the fastest one million views on YouTube. By Sunday midnight, the number of views crossed 1.7 million and the song was on the way to getting the fastest two million views.

Earlier on Sunday, the singer told his fans through a video message on his Twitter page that wait for the PSL song is over and the song would be released soon. “What a Sunday it is with sun shining overhead and birds chirping and spring season all around!” he said, adding that another thing is in the offing and that is the promised video - referring to the new PSL song he was supposed to drop the same day.

Earlier on Sunday, Ali Zafar’s version of PSL anthem, Mela Loot Liya, was leaked on YouTube hours before its official release and fans loved it. The song instantly rose to top 5 Twitter trends Sunday morning with the hashtag #MelaLootLiya.

The fifth edition of the PSL this year has been hit by many controversies and the PSL anthem was one of them. The anthem was created by Ali Azmat, Asim Azhar, Haroon and Arif Lohar, but it disappointed the fans in a drastic way. As the ceremony opened, the song proved an immediate flop and the mismanagement during the performance infuriated the cricket fans even more.

The angry PSL fans took to Twitter to vent their frustration. They said that Ali Zafar had created a much better anthem for fourth edition of the PSL last year. This reaction of the fans left Ali Azmat fuming. He later told the host of a popular TV show that his ‘rivals’ (referring to Ali Zafar without naming him) paid some bloggers to spread hatred against his new song.

Against this backdrop, Ali Zafar announced soon after the PSL opening that he would come up with his own version of the anthem. Speaking on 24 News programme “Naseem Zehra @8” last week, Ali said the new song he had composed for the PSL would be total fun. He said, as per people’s wishes, he did all segments of the song himself -- writing, composing, singing and even choreography.

Giving Naseem Zehra further details of his song, Ali said people had a lot of expectations from him and he would come up to their expectations. He said he could make even 1,000 songs free of charge because the love he receives from people is priceless. “Money does not matter when it is compared to the love he receives from people and the respect he has earned being a performer,” he said. He said a song inspired by people’s love and expectations could do as well as a song filmed with an investment of millions of rupees.
