Court extends Khawaja Asif’s judicial remand to March 12

An accountability court in Lahore on Tuesday extended the judicial remand of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) senior leader and former foreign minister Khawaja Asif until March 12 in assets beyond means case, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

Accountability Court Judge Jawadul Hassan also directed the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) to present a reference against the accused Khawaja Asif.

Judge Jawadul Hassan heard the case where PML-N leader was produced before the court amid strict security measures. 

Khawaja Asif was arrested by the NAB in Islamabad on December 29. According to the Bureau's spokesperson, the PML-N leader had earlier been summoned for an inquiry but he failed to provide the required evidence.

The spokesperson said Khawaja Asif held an iqama (work permit) from 2004 to 2008, adding that he claimed to have earned a total of Rs136 million for his services as a consultant legal adviser.
