In its first meeting on Tuesday, the Vigilance Committee of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) constituted for the transparent conduct of the Senate polls, issued notice to former MNA Liaquat Ali Jatoi who had alleged that PTI candidate Saifullah Abro bought the Senate ticket for Rs350 million, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

The first meeting of the Vigilance Committee was chaired by ECP Director General Law. The meeting was attended by representatives of State Bank of Pakistan (SBP), National Accountability Bureau (NAB), Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) and NADRA.

The committee sent a notice to Liaquat Ali Jatoi and sought documentary evidence of it.

The ECP said, “If any individual has evidence of financial gain in exchange for voting or abstaining in Senate elections, it should be provided to the Vigilance Committee.”

The ECP in its press statement issued on Tuesday said people can contact the vigilance committee at vigilance@ecp.gov.pk

It may be mentioned here that PTI leader Liaquat Jatoi has been served a Rs2 billion legal notice seeking damages after he alleged that Saifullah Abro, PTI's Senate candidate from Sindh on a technocrat seat, was given a ticket for Rs350 million.

SC allows Abro to contest election

A three-member bench headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan Gulzar Ahmed heard the disqualification petition of PTI candidate Saifullah Abro and allowed him to contest the Senate elections.

CJP Gulzar Ahmed pointing out to the claimant’s lawyer said there are elections tomorrow (Wednesday) and after that the polls you can challenge Abro’s disqualification.

“There are court decisions that nomination papers can be challenged after the election,” the CJP remarked.

The lawyer pleaded that the court should issue notice but the request was declined.

“There are elections tomorrow so the petition cannot be heard at this time. The petitioner may use other forums even after the elections,” the court remarked.
