DSP among three killed in Quetta blast; 24 injured

A Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) was among three killed in a huge bomb blast at Quetta’s Fatima Jinnah Road, reported 24NewsHD TV channel Wednesday.

According to the hospital sources, 24 injured people were also brought to the hospital where the three injured were in condition.

The blast took place near a police mobile and soon after the explosion, nearby shops caught fire.

Deputy Inspector-General (DIG) Operations Quetta Fida Hassan briefing the media said that a huge blast occurred when a police mobile van of City Police Station was passing on the Fatima Jinnah Road.

He said they were investigating the nature of the blast and suspected that it was conducted through an improvised explosive device (IED).

"Two-and-a-half to three kilogrammes of explosives were used in the blast," he said.

He confirmed that three people were killed including a DSP of police. He said police officials were also among 24 injured and all the injured have been shifted to Quetta’s Civil Hospital.

Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Abul Qadoos Bazinjo condemned the blast and expressed grief over the loss of precious lives.

He directed to implement emergency in all the Quetta hospitals and also ordered to ensure the availability of all the doctors and medical staff in the hospitals.

He also directed for extending the best medical facilities to the injured and directed the Secretary Health to monitor the process.

He said the coward terrorist have targeted innocent people. He said it was part of a well-thought conspiracy to disturb the peace of the Quetta city and the province. He also sought a detailed report of the incident from the IG Police and also directed to use all the resources to bring the culprits to justice at all cost.

Bazinjo also directed to enhance the security steps and establish a monitoring mechanism in the city.

According to the videos shared on social media, roaring flames of fire could be witnessed on the site of the blast.

Rescue workers and police were quick at the spot.

“We have no information about the nature of the blast”, a police official said.

Police closed all roads leading towards Fatima Jinnah Road Quetta for traffic.
