Succumbing to the International Monetary Fund’s (IMF) pressure, the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has decided to abolish subsidies the government had announced for government servants, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Thursday.

Quoting its sources, the channel reported that the FBR had approved abolishing different forms of subsidies which the Pakistan Customs employees were availing, including on the house rent they paid.

Similarly, they disclosed, the bureau had also decided to withdraw the subsidy on the medical allowance for these employees.

Sources revealed that the decision would apply to the officers from grade-17 to grade-22.

They informed that the Customs officials were being paid subsidies from the Common Pool Fund.

In Pakistan-IMF talks to be held this month, unnecessary subsidies being availed by government officials would come under discussion, sources informed.
