At least 15 people were killed while 20 others sustained injuries after the bus they were travelling in rolled down a hill and turned turtle in the Udhampur district of Occupied Jammu and Kashmir on Monday morning, reported Indian media.
The tragic incident took place in the Khagot area of Ramnagar in the district. Soon after the authorities were informed about the mishap, multiple ambulances were sent to the spot to assist in rescue operation.
Rescue officials said the bus met with the accident on the hilly road while negotiating a blind curve near Khagot village around 10 am.
Indian Union Minister Jitendra Singh confirmed the accident in a post on X. The minister stated that he spoke to Udhampur Deputy Commissioner (DC) Minga Sherpa following the accident involving a public transport bus travelling from Ramnagar. He added that rescue operation was launched and authorities were arranging medical aid for the injured.
He added that arrangements for the airlifting of seriously injured passengers were also being made. “Arrangements being made to airlift the seriously injured. I am in constant touch with the local administration as well as our local workers team led by Sh Rajinder Sharma," he added.
