A falcon chick sold for SR151,000 ($40,000), becoming the most expensive sale so far at this year's annual International Falcon Breeders Auction in Malham.
The high-priced bird, a Mathlouth gyrfalcon hybrid super white from a Slovenian breeder, saw bidding start at SR50,000.
The bird is under a year old, about 40 centimeters in height, and weighs just over 1 kg.
The identity of the buyer has not been revealed, and it is usual practice for the bird to be named after it is sold.
The hybrid was not the only bird sold, the fourth night of the auction organized by the Saudi Falcons Club and held at its headquarters until August 25.
The event, organized by the Saudi Falcons Club and running until Aug. 25, also saw a dark brown gyrfalcon shaheen sell for SR51,000.
The auction has established itself as a major global event, with last year's sales reaching SR10 million.
It attracts top international breeders and falconers, serving as a platform for knowledge exchange on the latest breeding techniques.
According to club spokesperson Walid Al-Taweel, the event utilizes modern technology, including live global broadcasting, and introduces new international breeding farms to foster collaboration.
The gyrfalcon, the world's largest falcon species, highly prized for its size and varying colors, remains a central focus of the bidding.
