Under the influence of the ongoing monsoon system, heavy rain once again lashed Karachi on Wednesday afternoon, leaving roads submerged and citizens worried as their problems compounded with choked drains and flooded highways and underpasses, 24NewsHD TV channel reported.

According to the report, areas including Shahrah-e-Faisal, PECHS, Saddar, Shah Faisal, Sindhi Muslim Society, Bizerta Lines, Tariq Road, Frere Hall, Jinnah Hospital, Gulistan-e-Johar, the airport, and adjoining localities were hit by torrential downpours.

The channel reported that rainwater quickly accumulated on major roads, creating severe traffic disruptions and stranding commuters. Nazimabad Underpass is filled with rainwater.

Earlier today, the channel reported that the death toll from rain-related accidents and electrocution incidents, following last night’s heavy rainfall, had risen to 11.

The torrential rains forced many citizens to abandon their vehicles and return home on foot.

Weather experts have warned of more heavy showers across Sindh, with Karachi expected to face further downpours in the coming hours.

Authorities have urged citizens to remain cautious as urban flooding risks remain high.

Karachi receives 245mm of rain in 12 hours:

Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah and Mayor Karachi conducted late-night visits to various parts of the city and also convened an emergency meeting, where it was briefed that Karachi had received 245 millimetres of rain within just 12 hours.

However, officials assured that major arteries had largely been cleared and drainage conditions were gradually improving in the city. The Chief Minister directed the DIG Traffic to remove vehicles stranded on the streets.

Yesterday, at least eight people were confirmed dead in rain-related incidents as a heavy downpour lashed Karachi on Tuesday.

Pakistan Army's relief operations continue in Karachi

 Pakistan Army continued their relief activities through rescue teams in Karachi. The army soldiers were busy rescuing people and vehicles affected by rain throughout the day in various parts of the city. Due to continuous rain, many vehicles were rescued with the help of Pakistan Army rescue vehicles. The army personnel's shifted the elderly people and children to safe places. The staff of Pak Army will continue the relief operation till the situation improves. 

K-Electric fails to restore power supply after 24 hours

In most areas of Karachi, the electricity could not be restored by K-Electric even after 24 hours, reported 24NewsHD TV Channel.

Several feeders closed again after the rains in the city, the distribution system of K-Electric failed drastically due to the rain. Citizens are forced to spend the night without the electricity in the upper class areas of the city, including Defence. Today more than 350 feeders of K-Electric tripped after a little rain.

More than 24 hours have passed since the power outage in several areas, including, Gulshan Iqbal Block 5, North Nazimabad Block D, Block A, Nazimabad, Banaras and Board Office. The technical teams of K-Electric failed to fix the fault, the staff of K-Electric start messing with citizens instead of ending the power outage issue. Yesterday,  a record 900+ feeders of K-Electric were shut down.

This was the worst situation in terms of the number of feeder closures after the privatization of K-Electric. Almost half of the city remained without electricity yesterday as 900 feeders out of a total of 2,100 were shut down.

The torrential downpour triggered urban flooding, particularly in vulnerable, poorly drained, and densely populated neighbourhoods.

Continuous rain with strong winds stretched into a second day, resulting in feeder tripping and widespread suspension of electricity in several areas.

Frightening incident of schoolchildren van:

In one frightening incident, a school van became stuck in a ditch in Nazimabad due to water accumulation.

According to reports, the children inside were safely evacuated and shifted to a secure place, while rescue efforts continued to pull the vehicle out.

Names of rain victims in Karachi:

Rescue officials confirmed several casualties, including a 65-year-old man, Muhammad Ishaq, who died of electrocution in North Karachi; a woman and three children who were killed in a wall collapse in Gulistan-e-Jauhar; 8-year-old Abdullah, who lost his life in another wall collapse in Orangi Town; a 24-year-old man who was electrocuted in DHA Phase 6; and a 28-year-old victim who died in Malir after being burnt in a petrol pump fire linked to the rain’s impact.

Rainfall in interior Sindh

Meanwhile, rainfall was also reported from Tando Allahyar, Thatta, Gharo, Gaju, Sakro, Dhabichi, Hyderabad, Matiari, Matli, and Talhar.

Intermittent heavy showers have continued in Daharki and surrounding areas since late at night, aggravating the misery of local residents.

The Meteorological Department has warned of more rainfall ahead.

Thatta, Badin, Mirpur, Hyderabad, Shaheed Benazirabad face flooding risks

The heavy rains in Sindh put several low-lying areas in danger of flooding across the province. The low-lying areas of Karachi, Thatta, Badin, Sujawal, Tharparkar, Umarkot, Mirpur Khas, Hyderabad, Shaheed Benazirabad, Tando Allahyar, Tando Muhammad Khan, Sanghar and Jamshoro are in danger of flooding. There is also flooding risk due to heavy rains in rivers and canals of southern Balochistan, the public has been advised to remain cautious. The daily has been affected due to heavy rains, strong winds, snowstorm and thunder, moreover there is also risk of damage to fragile infrastructure like mud houses, electricity poles, billboards, cars, solar panel and walls. The travelers and tourists should be more careful while travelling and prepare for the travel according to the weather conditions. Be aware of the weather to avoid any unpleasant situations during the rains.

PM offers full federal support to Sindh amid floods

Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif telephoned Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah today to discuss the situation after heavy rains and urban flooding in southern Sindh, especially Karachi.                                 

He offered federal government's all out assistance to the Sindh government to deal with this emergency situation.

The Prime Minister directed the Chairman NDMA to remain in constant touch with the Sindh government and fully cooperate with them regarding their needs during the emergency situation.

The Prime Minister also directed the Chairman NDMA to remain fully prepared and provide awareness to the people regarding the expected rain in the southern districts of Sindh in the next one or two days.

Shehbaz Sharif said the federal government will provide all kinds of assistance to the Sindh government to deal with the emergency situation.
