Sydney Sweeney proved she’s not afraid of heights or adrenaline after leaping from a plane 10,000 feet in the air with professional skydiver Luke Aikins, who famously jumped without a parachute in 2016.
The Euphoria star, 27, shared footage of her tandem dive with the Red Bull Air Force member on Instagram, thrilling her 28.4 million followers. Wearing a flight suit zipped low, the actress grinned as she free-fell alongside the 51-year-old daredevil.
“Probably the coolest thing I’ve ever had the opportunity of doing,” Sweeney captioned the video. “Thank you @lukeaikins for a memory of a lifetime.”
Aikins, whose Hollywood stunt credits include Black Widow, Ant-Man and the Wasp, Godzilla and Iron Man 3, ensured the actress had a safe landing after the jaw-dropping jump.
The glamorous stunt comes at a delicate moment in Sweeney’s career. Her new indie film Americana grossed only $500,000 across 1,100 theaters during its opening weekend in the U.S., a disappointing start for the Lionsgate release. Industry insiders expect the film to top out around $1.5 million, well below projections.
Sweeney stars as Penny Jo Poplin, a South Dakota waitress with dreams of becoming a country singer. The modern western crime thriller, directed by Tony Tost, also features Halsey, Paul Walter Hauser, Eric Dane, and Simon Rex.
Shot three years ago and delayed since its 2022 South by Southwest debut, the project arrives in UK theaters this Friday under tepid reviews and limited buzz.
The actress also remains under scrutiny for her American Eagle campaign, which sparked backlash earlier this month after critics accused the ad of promoting “eugenics-like” messaging. Sweeney, who recently registered Republican, has not directly addressed the criticism, though the brand insisted the spot was “always about the jeans.”
Despite the controversy, American Eagle’s stock surged 27% following former President Donald Trump’s endorsement of the campaign as the “hottest ad out there.”
Sweeney’s busy schedule continues with several high-profile projects. She stars in Ron Howard’s survival thriller Eden, hitting theaters this Friday, alongside Jude Law, Ana de Armas, and Daniel Brühl, portraying real-life German settler Margret Wittmer.
She will also attend the September 5 world premiere of David Michôd’s Christy, a biopic about boxer Christy Martin, for which she trained in mixed martial arts and gained 30 pounds of muscle.
