Police encounters surge by 110% in Punjab

Police encounters have increased by 110 percent compared to last year across Punjab, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Saturday. 

According to data collected from Punjab police department, martyrdom ratio of police officials dived by 110 percent while deaths of criminals also multiplied by 110 percent.

So far this year, 2,564 police encounters have been reported throughout Punjab including Lahore. 

This year, 1,270 criminals were killed, 16 were injured and 1,551 were arrested while 19 police personnel were martyred and 165 were injured in the firing of criminals. 

Last year, 544 criminals were killed in 1,186 encounters, 781 were injured and 853 were arrested. 

Last year, 42 police officials were martyred while 170 were injured. 

In three years, 4,593 police encounters have been reported so far. 

A total of 228 criminals were killed, 2,957 were injured while 3,194 are being arrested. 

In three years, 78 police personnel have been martyred while 485 have been injured. 

Police sources said that this year, there has been a significant decrease in martyrdoms while criminals have been suppressed. 

Serious crimes have decreased due to the elimination of criminals in police encounters.
