Wapda chairman reviews expansion work of Tarbela Dam

Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) Chairman Lt.-Gen. ® Mohammad Saeed reviewed the fifth expansion project of Tarbela Dam, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

During his visit, a comprehensive briefing was given to Chairman WAPDA on the fifth expansion work of the Tarbela Dam.

WAPDA Chairman was informed during the briefing that 56 percent of the expansion work is completed, and the electricity generation process will start in April 2027.

The Chairman of WAPDA was told about the progress, challenges, and timeline of the completion of the project.

Chairman WAPDA directed to expedite work on the tunnel and power house. He also directed consultants, contractors, and the WAPDA team to adopt effective efforts for the completion of the project.

After the completion of the expansion project, 1,530 megawatt electricity will be generated. The project will provide 1.466 billion units of low-cost and environmentally friendly electricity to the National Grid every year.

The World Bank is providing 390 million dollars for the project, and the Asian Infrastructure Bank is providing $300 million.

After the completion, overall 6,418 megawatt electricity will be obtained from Tarbela Dam. The Chairman of WAPDA also visited the fourth expansion project. The fourth expansion project already provided 33 billion units to the National Grid.
