The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Friday decided to implement the Supreme Court’s verdict allocating reserved seats to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), but also maintained that it will seek direction from the apex court if there is any lacuna in the ruling, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
A meeting of the ECP was held in Islamabad on Friday in which it was decided that the reserved seats will be allocated to the PTI as per the Supreme Court’s decision.
An ECP spokesman said the Commission will not bend before any pressure.
The ECP has also issued directives to its legal team that if they have any reservation on point of the Supreme Court verdict then they should immediately move the court.
The ECP condemned unwanted criticism of chief election commissioner by a political party by rejecting it. The commission will continue to function in accordance with the law and the Constitution ignoring all kind of pressure, it added.
The ECP maintained that it did not wrongly interpret any Supreme Court judgement and it did not uphold the PTI’s intra-party elections.
The ECP said PTI had moved different forums against the commission but its decision was upheld and declared valid.
