Pakistan endured a dismal start to their T20I series against Bangladesh on Sunday, collapsing for just 110 runs, their lowest-ever total against the Tigers in T20I history, at the Shere Bangla National Stadium.
To make matters worse, it marked the first time Pakistan were bowled out completely by Bangladesh in a T20I match, adding two unwanted records to the national team’s books.
Opting to bat first, Pakistan showed early promise with openers Fakhar Zaman and Saim Ayub finding boundaries. But that momentum was short-lived. Saim fell for 6 in just the second over to Taskin Ahmed, and the collapse began. Mohammad Haris briefly counterattacked but departed for 5 in the third over, leaving the visitors wobbling at 32-2.
Skipper Agha Salman could not anchor the innings and was sent back for 3 off 9 balls. The middle-order imploded as Hassan Nawaz was dismissed for a duck, followed by a chaotic run-out of Mohammad Nawaz, dragging Pakistan down to 46-5 within 8 overs.
Fakhar Zaman remained the lone bright spot, grinding out 44 off 34 balls before a miscommunication with Khushdil Shah led to another needless run-out. Late-order fireworks from Abbas Afridi, who smashed three sixes in his 22, and Khushdil's 17 offered some hope, but Bangladesh’s bowlers ruthlessly cleaned up the tail.
Mustafizur Rahman and Taskin Ahmed led the attack with two and three wickets respectively, while Mahedi Hasan and Tanzim Hasan Sakib chipped in with one apiece. Bangladesh’s sharp bowling and fielding ensured Pakistan’s innings folded in just 19.1 overs.
The hosts will now look to capitalise on this momentum in the remaining matches of the series, while Pakistan must regroup fast to avoid further embarrassment.
