Pakistan's young scientists have won a silver medal and an honourable mention at the 37th International Biology Olympiad held in Lithuania, 24NewsHD TV reported on Monday.
According to a statement issued by the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC), more than 350 students from over 90 countries participated in the prestigious global competition.
Representing Pakistan, Hasan Atif Cheema from Lahore secured a silver medal with an outstanding performance, while Muhammad Mutahir from Karachi earned an honourable mention.
The students were selected through a joint talent identification programme of the Higher Education Commission (HEC) and the Pakistan Institute of Engineering and Applied Sciences (PIEAS).
Before the international event, they received specialised training at the National Institute of Biotechnology, PIEAS, which operates under the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission, to prepare them according to international standards.
The Pakistani delegation was led by Professor Dr Asma Imran and Dr Aamir Ali, who guided the team throughout the competition.
PAEC said the latest achievement has raised Pakistan's overall tally to 144 international medals in global science Olympiads.
