Alice Wells, who is the US Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs, on Friday said Washington was going to provide $1 million as initial funding to Islamabad to fight the coronavirus spread in Pakistan.
Talking about the US-Pakistan partnership to help fight the pandemic affecting the entire world, she said the US government was responding to the situation in Pakistan with an initially aid of $1 million through the USAID. It will be used to bolster monitoring and rapid response, she added.

Wells noted that the two countries were the longstanding partners in tackling global health challenges.
She said there were more than 100 recent Pakistani graduates of the CDC [Centers for Disease Control and Prevention] – the top American agency dealing with diseases and pandemics – from its epidemiology lab, training currently on the ground to investigate the coronavirus cases in Gilgit-Baltistan and Punjab.
