The bird hit the engine number 2 of the Boeing 777 plane, the sources said.

More than 300 passengers were on board the flight PK-860 from Jeddah to Lahore.

The sources further said that the engine of the PIA Boeing 777 plane was damaged due to the bird hit and the plane was grounded after a thorough inspection.

An Aviation official said that no bird repellent system has been installed at any airport across the country to protect planes from bird hits.

Airlines have to bear losses of millions of rupees every year due to the bird strikes which can also cause major accidents.
