Punjab government has decided to establish state-of-the-art labs in North, Central and South Punjab under the Punjab Forensic Science Authority, which will collect evidence related to terrorism and serious crimes, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Thursday.
In this regard, Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz has released funds worth Rs8 billion to build the Punjab Forensic Science Authority on modern lines.
By giving the status of the Forensic Science Agency to the Authority, unprecedented reforms are being brought in the institution.
The Forensic Science Authority has been given the mandate of protecting crime scenes and transporting forensic materials.
This process will not only improve the quality of work but will also ensure effective prosecution in the court.
With the establishment of updated offices and labs of the Authority across Punjab, cases from these areas can be dealt with there.
Due to the presence of authority offices in all parts of the province and competent human resources, timely reports will be received.
The Chief Minister of Punjab will be the head of the Forensic Science Authority Board.
The Chief Minister will appoint a Vice Chairperson for the Punjab Forensic Authority.
All relevant departments have been included in the Authority Board to ensure full and immediate support of the government.
The Secretaries of the Home Department, Finance, P&D, Law, Prosecution and IG Punjab will be the members of the Authority Board.
From the field of Forensic Science five experts have also been made part of the authority board.
The Chief Minister of Punjab has allocated Rs8 billion for the construction and upgradation of latest equipment, infrastructure and buildings for the authority.
