Air travel on domestic flights registered a 40 percent decrease in the number of passengers due to an increase in the price of jet fuel by 10 to 20 percent on the occasion of Eid al-Fitr, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Friday.
According to details, the number of flights for Middle East countries was also enhanced as a lot of Pakistanis are stranded in different Gulf countries and they wanted to return to their country on the occasion of Eid al-Fitr.
Presently, a large number of Pakistanis are in Saudi Arabia to perform Umrah. The number of flights to Middle East countries was increased by more than a dozen due to the Eid festival.
The aviation industry has long been sensitive to fluctuations in fuel prices, which can account for a significant share of total operating costs.
When fuel prices rise sharply, airlines are left with limited options: either absorb the additional costs, which eat into already thin profit margins, or transfer those costs to consumers through fare adjustments.
The current situation underscores the vulnerability of the airline sector to external cost pressures, with fuel pricing remaining a critical variable that can dramatically alter the financial outlook for carriers large and small alike.
