BTS leader RM (Kim Namjoon) has suffered an ankle injury just days before the group’s highly anticipated full-group comeback, forcing him to limit his on-stage performance during the upcoming live event on March 21, 2026.
The group is set to reunite for their first full-group performance in nearly four years at Gwanghwamun Square, a landmark venue in Seoul. However, concerns arose after RM sustained an injury during rehearsals on March 19.
BTS’ agency, BIGHIT MUSIC, confirmed that RM was immediately taken to the hospital, where doctors diagnosed him with a talus contusion, partial ligament tear, and accessory navicular sprain. Medical experts have advised him to wear a cast and limit physical activity for at least two weeks to ensure proper recovery.
Despite the injury, RM expressed a strong desire to participate in the comeback event. Following discussions with the agency, it was decided that he will still appear on stage but with restricted movement, particularly during choreography, to avoid further strain.
BIGHIT MUSIC reassured fans that while his performance may be limited, RM will do his best to engage with the audience and remain part of the historic comeback.
Fans, known as ARMY, flooded social media with messages of support and concern. Many urged RM to prioritize his health over the performance.
“Get well soon, Joonie. Don’t worry about us your health is more important,” one fan wrote.
“Please don’t be hard on yourself… your recovery matters more than a perfect concert,” another added.
The upcoming event marks a major milestone, as all seven members—RM, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, V, and Jungkook—reunite following their military service and individual projects. The comeback also signals the group’s first full-length release in nearly four years.
Despite RM’s injury slightly altering the performance, the “BTS THE COMEBACK LIVE | ARIRANG” event remains one of the biggest global music moments of the year. The show will be streamed worldwide from Gwanghwamun, with the historic Gyeongbokgung Palace as its backdrop.
