A court in Karachi has ordered K-Electric to pay RS 50.6 million in compensation to the heirs of a father and son who died from electrocution during rainfall in the city, 24NewsHD TV reported on Friday.
The order was issued by the court of the Senior Civil Judge South during a hearing on a damages suit filed against the utility company over the deaths.
According to the court ruling, K-Electric must deposit the compensation amount with the court’s official receiver within 30 days.
The court further directed the receiver to disburse the compensation to the legal heirs of the deceased and submit a compliance report once the payment is made.
The case stems from the deaths of a father and son who were electrocuted during rain in Karachi, an incident that renewed scrutiny of urban electrical safety and infrastructure maintenance during the monsoon and wet weather conditions in Pakistan’s largest city.
