The government has announced a special concession for prisoners, with the President of Pakistan approving a reduction in sentences under Article 45 of the Constitution.
The decision, taken on the recommendation of the Prime Minister, grants a 100-day remission in sentences on the occasions of Eid-ul-Fitr and Pakistan Day. The concession will apply to all eligible prisoners across the country.
However, authorities clarified that individuals convicted of serious crimes will not benefit from the relief. Those involved in terrorism, kidnapping, robbery, and rape have been excluded from the concession.
Prisoners convicted in drug-related cases, as well as individuals found guilty of causing losses to the national treasury or involved in financial corruption, will also not be eligible for the sentence reduction.
Officials said the move is aimed at providing relief on national and religious occasions while maintaining strict limits on serious offenders.
