In a major policy shift aimed at improving road safety and regulating transport operations, the Sindh cabinet has approved mandatory 30-hour training for obtaining a Heavy Transport Vehicle (HTV) driving license in the province.
The decision was taken during a cabinet meeting chaired by Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, who also announced a significant reduction in the age limit for HTV license applicants — from 24 years to 22 years — in a move likely to benefit younger drivers entering the commercial transport sector.
According to the Chief Minister, the government will soon introduce a new automatic fine system, under which traffic violations will trigger immediate digital notices. He warned that repeated violations, particularly involving tinted windows, could lead to fines of up to Rs 300,000.
The cabinet also decided to establish special traffic courts to ensure swift disposal of traffic-related cases, reducing the backlog and enhancing legal enforcement of traffic laws.
Separately, officials reported that over 100,000 online driving licenses have been issued in Sindh within the last five months, indicating a sharp rise in the adoption of digital licensing services.
These measures are part of Sindh’s broader effort to enhance road discipline, modernize traffic enforcement, and improve public safety on the province’s roads.
