ECP reviews arrangements for LG elections in Quetta, NA 256 by-poll

Quetta local government elections schedule is likely to be released in second week of June 2026, reported 24NewsHD TV Channel. 

Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja chairs a meeting regarding local government election in Blaochistan. Members of Election Commission, Chief Secretary and IG Balochistan, including senior officers, attended the meeting. 

During the meeting, there was detailed deliberation on the situation related to the by-election in NA-256 Khuzdar. It was told that the election schedule was earlier suspended due to law and order at the request of the Balochistan government. Chief Secretary and IG Balochistan briefed on the security situation. 

They told ECP that elections were declared impossible due to terrorism, tribal conflicts and geographical difficulties. 

The Election Commission expressed determination to hold by-elections as per constitution and law. 

The meeting also reviewed arrangements for Quetta local body elections especially the completion of delimitation. Blaochistan government and Election Commission agreed to continue consultations and get direction to seek early position from provincial government for final decision.
