Cocaine Queen Anmol, alias Pinky's name was mentioned during the proceedings of the National Assembly (NA) on Wednesday when PPP’s Raja Pervaiz Ashraf lashed out at some YouTubers for associating him with the drug dealer, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
“Levelling a false accusation is a sin. My character is like a clean slate,” he said it aloud, adding he prayed to the Almighty Allah to keep other people safe from such conspiracies.
He called upon the parliament to legislate to determine the limits of social media.
He also demanded action against those who brought a bad name to politicians without any proof. “Elimination of the culture of fake news from the country is necessary,” PPP MNA asserted.
Expressing solidarity with Ashraf, Federal Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar said the entire House stood by him. “The matter will be referred to the information minister and the PEMRA chairman,” he assured the lawmaker.
NA Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq referred the matter to the committee on interior.
The National Assembly’s (NA) Standing Committee on Interior on Wednesday ordered completion of an investigation into the case of alleged drug dealer, Anmol alias Pinky; action against the officials who were partners in her crime and a report in writing on former prime minister and PPP MNA Raja Pervaiz Ashraf’s alleged links to the woman.
Speaking during the meeting, the committee chairman said that Pinky’s lawyer had uttered the name of Ashraf during a court hearing. “Therefore, Sindh Police and FIA officers are asked to comment on this.”
The PPP MNA appeared before the committee and repudiated the claims made against him.
He said that his name was mentioned in the first clip which he had received. “After that, I received calls from my friends and family members who inquired from me about the matter,” he said, adding that an hour later, he received another clip, which had been sent by Pinky’s lawyer. “Her lawyer said that his client had told him that she was being pressurized to name him (Ashraf) as her customer,” the PPP MNA elaborated.
He expressed surprise that when PPP was the ruling party in Sindh, how on earth anyone could pressurize the drug dealer to mention his name. “Vloggers need such spicy and sensational material to get views on social media,” Ashraf said, adding that he raised the issue in the NA prompting the committee chairman to take notice of it.
“This practice will have to be eliminated; if it cannot be eliminated, then it should be limited,” he emphasized.
Additional police chief Sindh Azad Khan told the committee that Pinky had been associated with the drug business for the last 18 years and that she was in contact with the police and ANF officers as well as personnel. “Besides cellphone numbers of scores of people were recovered from the woman’s cellphone,” he informed.
Khan said that the police were looking into the case of Raja Pervaiz Ashraf. “People come to us and pose for photographs with us. This does not imply that we are partners in their crimes.”
