Timber log seized, Rs 6 lakh fine imposed on culprits

On the instructions of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, the Punjab Forest Department has taken effective and vigorous action against the smuggling and transportation of illegal timber.

In Attock district, forest division imposed Rs 100,000 fine on timber mafia who were illegally transporting of timber.

Layyah District Forest Division has also taken successful action and apprehended a vehicle loaded with 13 valuable timber logs. The Forest Division seized the vehicle and imposed a fine of Rs 500,000 on the culprits.

Punjab Senior Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb has lauded Forests Department’s team. She asserted that forest conservation is the top priority of the Punjab government and a zero-tolerance policy is being strictly implemented in this regard.

She said an indiscriminate action will continue against those involved in illegal logging, smuggling and illegal transportation of timber. Senior Minister said that Punjab Forest Department is fully active in the field for the protection of the province's green cover and environmental improvement. The public is appealed to cooperate with the Forest Department for the protection of forests and report any illegal activity immediately.
