The Ministry of Science and Technology has appointed Dr. Raheel Qamar as the Rector of COMSATS University, one of Pakistan’s leading institutions in the field of science and technology.
According to an official notification issued after presidential approval, Dr. Qamar will serve a five-year term as head of the Commission on Science and Technology for Sustainable Development in the South (COMSATS).
Dr Raheel Qamar is not new to the role—he previously served as Acting Rector of COMSATS University from 2017 to 2020, where he was credited for advancing academic and research initiatives.
A recipient of the Tamgha-e-Imtiaz, conferred by former President General Pervez Musharraf in 2007, Dr. Qamar has also represented Pakistan internationally as the head of the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO), an affiliate of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).
