In a positive development for Pakistan’s economy, the current account turned from deficit to surplus in September 2025, according to data released by the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP).
The central bank reported a current account surplus of $110 million in September, marking a sharp turnaround from the $325 million deficit recorded in August 2025.
For comparison, the current account deficit in September 2024 stood at $52 million, showing a notable improvement year-on-year.
During the first three months of the ongoing fiscal year, Pakistan’s current account deficit was $594 million, slightly higher than the $502 million deficit recorded in the same period last year, the SBP said.
Economic experts described the surplus as a significant achievement, especially given the stagnant export growth, attributing the improvement mainly to a rise in remittance inflows from overseas Pakistanis.
Analysts added that maintaining this momentum could ease pressure on foreign exchange reserves and strengthen the rupee in the months ahead.
