The second track of M-5 at Jalalpur Pirwala has also been washed away, prompting the National Highway Authority (NHA) staffers to rush to the spot along with a heavy machinery and start its repair, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Saturday.
Earlier, the western track of the same section of the motorway had been washed away by the flood.
According to the spokesman for the Motorway Police (MP), M-5 is closed for traffic from Shah Shams Interchange to Uch Sharif Interchange.
However, motorists can travel from Multan to Sukkur.
Flood leaves Ubauro devastated
Dozens of villages have been submerged, while crops over thousands of acres of land have been destroyed due to the flood that has wreaked havoc in the katcha area of Ubauro.
On the other hand, the floodwater has led to the spread of malaria, gastro, asthma and other diseases in the area.
Locals have appealed to the government to provide them immediate help, adding they are without clean drinking water.
Flood wreaks havoc in Luddan
Despite drop in the water level in Luddan, there is no immediate relief in sight for the flood-affected people in the city and its outskirts as their homes have either been damaged or destroyed while crops have been inundated.
To make matters worse, robberies have spread fear and panic in the area.
The people have said that now when they have lost their homes and crops, whatever little they have been left with is snatched by thieves.
They have said that someone from their families has to stay back at homes to guard them.
They have also complained that the Rescue 1122 staffers are not cooperating with them.
People in Ahmadpur Sial sans clean drinking water
In Samandoana union council of Ahmadpur Sial, the water is no longer fit for drinking, which has forced the residents to fetch water from the city.
They have appealed to the government to resolve their issue, adding contaminated water might lead to the spread of Hepatitis and other diseases in the area.
Flood leaves trail of destruction in Arifwala, Qabula
Despite the fact that water is receding in Arifwala, the situation is still far from satisfactory as people’s homes and crops have been destroyed.
Those who are now returning to their area say they have been completely devastated.
They have appealed to the government to rehabilitate them.
The situation is no different in Qaboola where too people have appealed to the government for help, saying they have lost their homes, crops and other belongings.
Flood victims in Dadu protest
The flood-affected people have held a sit-in by erecting barricades on a road connecting Dadu to Moro to protest against what they allege the non-provision of relief items to them.
They have said that the district administration is not serious in providing them relief.
They have further said that they have been provided with only three, instead of 13 boats.
Moreover, they have complained that there is a shortage of medicines at the medical camps set up in the area.
The protestors have threatened to intensify their protest in case their demands are not met.
However, rebutting the claims made by the protestors, Dadu Deputy Commissioner Syed Murtaza Shah has said that all possible relief is being provided to them, and that the administration is ready to solve their problems in future as well. “We have provided the flood-hit people with 18 boats and have set up eight medical camps in the area.”
Two girls die due to roof collapse in Dadu
Two young girls were killed when the roof of their house caved in in Dadu, where floods have wreaked havoc, forcing over 50,000 people from their homes and cutting off road links.
Academic activities in over 10 union councils remain completely suspended, while 22 primary schools are presently under floodwater.
Ubauro
The sugarcane crop was submerged after a 30-feet wide breach developed in a canal in the suburban area of Ubauro.
Residents of the area have said that nobody from the administration reached to plug the breach despite having been informed.
Resultantly, they have added, they have been forced to plug it on their own.
Water level in River Indus at Guddu drops
The situation is no more threatening at Guddu Barrage in Kashmore as the water level in the River Indus at the site continues to drop.
Resultantly, the river is in low flood at the site, while the water level has come down by more than 100,000 cusecs during the last 24 hours.
According to the control room, the inflow of water at the site has been recorded at 319,000 cusecs, while the outflow at 290,000 cusecs, and that the situation will further normalize in the next 24 hours.
People in Dadu use boats for picnics
While on one hand, the flood-affected people in Dadu are going through a trauma, others, quite oblivious to their pain and agony, have started riding on the boats, which are meant for them.
People ride on these boats and pose for selfies, least bothering that these are meant for their brethren so that they could commute from one place to another.
