Federal Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb said on Sunday that in the present circumstances, talk of long marches and sit-ins was beyond comprehension, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
He said that it was after a lot of efforts that the country had become economically stable. “And now when the government wants to transform this stability into progress, some political parties are talking about long marches,” he said, and added that this would amount to obstructing the country’s growth.
“Protests and sit-ins will daily cost a financial loss of Rs120 billion to the national economy,” the minister apprehended.
He claimed that presently the country had largest foreign exchange reserves in its history. “Marked reduction has been noticed in financial deficit,” Aurangzeb said, adding that expenditures were being cut down.
Similarly, he said, remittances were increasing with each passing day. “The current account is surplus,” he said, and added that the country’s exports were on the right track, while more and more people were investing in the Pakistan Stock Market.
The minister lamented that unfortunately, the Gulf war had hit the world economy, including that of Pakistan.
He went on to say that the country’s enemies were busy creating unrest.
