A week-long anti-polio vaccination campaign will begin across 115 districts of the country from tomorrow (Monday), with more than 31 million children under the age of five set to receive oral polio vaccine drops, 24NewsHD TV reported on Sunday.
The seven-day campaign will continue from September 21 to September 27, targeting around 10 million children under the age of five in Sindh.
The vaccination drive will be carried out across all 23 districts of Sindh, while campaign activities will be conducted partially in seven other districts, including Balochistan, Gilgit-Baltistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Islamabad, and Punjab.
Special attention will be paid to high-risk and polio hotspot areas where children face a greater risk of poliovirus transmission.
Due to the safe and effective polio vaccine, Pakistan has reduced polio cases by 99.8 percent—from an estimated 20,000 cases in the early 1990s to 31 in 2025.
So far in 2026, four cases have been reported, mostly concentrated in southern KP.
While overall poliovirus transmission in the country has declined since 2025, transmission remains persistent in southern KP.
