Lahore Traffic Police have arrested a motorcyclist for allegedly using another person’s number plate to avoid e-challans, 24NewsHD TV reported on Sunday.

According to police, the suspect was stopped by patrolling officer Mian Ghulam Murtaza at Shanghai Bridge for riding without a helmet.

The motorcycle was carrying number plate APL 2026.

A check of its e-challan record showed 72 traffic violations registered against the vehicle, carrying fines totalling around Rs144,000.

Further investigation revealed that the rider had allegedly installed another citizen’s motorcycle number plate on his bike.

As a result, e-challans for traffic violations were being issued in the name of the genuine owner.

Police registered a case against the suspect at Kot Lakhpat Police Station and detained him for further legal action.
