Several people injured as grenades explode and buses burn in Dhaka

A series of grenade explosions and bus fires have been reported in Bangladesh’s capital, Dhaka, leaving several people injured, the 24NewsHD TV channel reported on Sunday.

According to the report, grenade explosions and arson incidents continued in different parts of the capital from Saturday evening until late at night.

Several buses were set on fire, while grenades were thrown at different locations.

Several people were injured in the incidents. Police also detained and arrested a number of people during operations carried out in different parts of the capital.

Following the grenade explosions and arson attacks, the Dhaka Metropolitan Police tightened security across the city from Saturday night. 

Vehicle searches continued throughout the night at around 200 checkpoints established across Dhaka.

Security was also increased on major roads, at busy crossings and at entry points into the city. Police carried out searches of vehicles considered suspicious.

The Dhaka Metropolitan Police said operations were continuing to identify and arrest those involved in setting buses on fire and carrying out the grenade explosions.
