In a significant step toward strengthening Pakistan’s transport infrastructure, the Asian Development Bank and the National Highways Authority have signed an agreement for the development of the Hyderabad-Sukkur Motorway (M6) project.
The agreement, signed by senior officials of both organizations, marks major progress in the long-awaited motorway project, which is considered a critical component of the country’s road network.
According to the announcement, two sections of the Hyderabad-Sukkur Motorway will be constructed under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model, aimed at attracting private investment and ensuring transparency in execution.
The ADB highlighted that the M6 Motorway Project will play a vital role in enhancing north-south connectivity across Pakistan, forming a key link in the broader Peshawar-Karachi Motorway Corridor. The project is expected to significantly reduce travel time between major cities while improving the overall logistics and transportation system.
As part of the initiative, a 120-kilometre six-lane section of the motorway will be constructed, featuring modern tolling and advanced traffic management systems to ensure efficient and safe travel.
The Asian Development Bank will also provide technical and advisory support to facilitate smooth implementation and adherence to international standards.
Officials noted that the inclusion of private sector participation is likely to boost investor confidence and create new opportunities, while ensuring transparency and efficiency in project delivery.
The Hyderabad-Sukkur Motorway has long been regarded as a missing link in Pakistan’s motorway network, and its development is expected to accelerate economic activity and regional connectivity upon completion.
