The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) has approved an increase of Rs1.15 per unit in the electricity tariff as part of the first quarter adjustment of the current financial year, reported 24NewsHd TV channel Wednesday.

The decision has been sent to the federal government for notification and will be applicable to all electricity consumers except for lifeline and K-Electric consumers.

According to Nepra, the increase will result in an additional burden of Rs.22.3 billion on the power consumers and the additional collections will be made during January-March 2024.

Nepra said the increase was mainly due to higher fuel costs, lower hydro generation and higher transmission losses in the first quarter.
