IMF lauds govt’s measures to improve governance, curb corruption

International Monetary Fund (IMF) has lauded the government of Pakistan for taking measures to improve governance in the country, reported 24NewsHD TV Channel.

IMF mission released the statement after the completion of its review mission. The statement said IMF appreciates the seriousness and commitment of the Government of Pakistan and expressed hope for further cooperation. The IMF team will visit Pakistan again later this year. IMF team will visit to explore opportunities to improve governance, transparency, economic outcomes in Pakistan.

IMF mission visited Pakistan from February 6 to February 14 with the objective to complete the preliminary work for the preparation of the Governance, Corruption Perceptions Assessment. The team will visit Pakistan to assist in the preparation of the final assessment, fiscal governance, central bank governance and operations. The global lender said issues related to financial sector supervision, market regulation, rule of law, anti-money laundering and closure of funding to terrorists were discussed. 

During the visit, IMF Mission also held meetings with various stakeholders besides the officials of the Ministry of Finance, FBR and State Bank of Pakistan. The delegation also consulted the Ministry of Law and the Supreme Court of Pakistan, IMF delegation also met with the authorities of SECP and Auditor General of Pakistan. The delegation also met with business community and civil society.
