Court orders exhumation of couple's bodies murdered for 'honour': Main accused handed over to police on remand

Balochistan High Court (BHC) Chief Justice Rozi Khan Barrech on Monday took notice of the brutal murder of a man and a woman in Degari in the name of honour after they got married, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

Chief Justice Rozi Khan Barrech summoned Balochistan additional chief secretary for home and the inspector general of police to appear before the court on July 22 (Tuesday-tomorrow) to explain the progress of the investigation and measures taken so far.

Earlier in the day, an anti-terrorism court in Quetta ordered the exhumation of bodies of the man and his wife, who had been murdered for ‘honour’ (Karo-kari) in a Balochistan town three days before Eidul Adha.

The court also gave two-day physical remand of Sher Khan, one of the suspects, to the police. 

Earlier, Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfaraz Bugti said that all people involved in the incident would be brought to justice. “None will be spared,” he said.

Police have arrested 11 persons in connection with the murder of a couple for ‘honour’ (Karokari) after the registration of a case against them under terrorism-related sections on the complaint of the state. 

The provincial government swung into action after the video of the incident went viral on social media.

Families of the deceased, who had contracted the marriage of their free will, however, did not report the incident took the police.

On the other hand, in his message on a social media platform, X, Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfaraz Bugti has said that all perpetrators of the atrocity will be brought to justice. “The state stands by the victims. Nobody involved in this heinous crime will be spared.” 

According to the FIR, the incident took place three days before Eidul Adha. 

The victims, a man and his wife, were identified as Ihsan and Bano.

Police have said that the incident took place in Dagari area of the province, and that raids are being conducted for the arrest of the remaining suspects. 

The Force has informed that the Satakzai tribe’s chieftain is among those taken into custody.  

The video shows a group of men leading a couple out of vehicles and into a desert before gunning them down with pistols and shooting the bodies.

Bilawal, Sherry condemn killings

PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari strongly condemned the Degari incident, calling the perpetrators "beasts" undeserving of any leniency.

He expressed the confidence that those behind the killings would be held accountable soon. He urged the Balochistan government to treat this as a test case, describing it as an act of “gender terrorism”.

Defence Minister Khawaja Asif posted the harrowing video on X, addressing the people of Balochistan. Highlighting the rise in militancy, he urged locals to speak out against the systemic injustices around them. He emphasized that the real oppressors were not migrants or workers from other provinces, but their own, referencing a recent deadly bus attack in Kalat.

PPP Vice President Senator Sherry Rehman also denounced the killings on X, calling them an “unforgivable crime”.

She asserted that denying someone the right to marry is a fundamental human rights violation, and condemned killings based on tribal rulings as deeply shameful.
