The Lahore High Court (LHC) has dismissed the appeal of Qari Muhammad Shahbaz, the convict in a minor's assault case, the 24NewsHD TV channel reported on Monday.
Justice Abher Gul Khan rejected the convict's plea challenging the trial court’s verdict and upheld his life sentence for sexually assaulting a six-year-old girl in a school.
The deputy prosecutor general, Ms Asia Yasin, opposed Shahbaz’s appeal, arguing that the evidence—including the victim’s statement and medical reports—established his guilt.
She pleaded that police investigations had revealed that Shahbaz assaulted the minor within school premises.
The trial court had earlier sentenced him to life imprisonment based on the merits of the case.
Despite defense counsel’s arguments seeking acquittal, the court remained unconvinced, stating that the prosecution had presented irrefutable evidence.
