Pakistani legendary actress Bushra Ansari has shared an emotional story about the challenges many families face when balancing marriage and responsibilities toward parents.
Speaking in an interview, Bushra recalled the experience of one of her close friends, who has an only son.
According to her, the son's wife wanted to live separately from her in-laws after marriage and preferred having her own independent home.
Bushra said the elderly parents, wanting to avoid conflict and protect their son's marriage, even offered to move out themselves.
They assured their son they could comfortably rent an apartment nearby and leave the family home to the young couple.
However, the son firmly rejected the idea. According to Bushra, he told his parents that he would never allow them to leave their own home and that, as their only child, it was his responsibility to stay with them.
He reportedly added that if his wife wished to leave, she was free to do so, but he could never abandon his parents.
Reflecting on the incident, Bushra elucidated that she did not believe anyone involved was at fault.
She explained that the daughter-in-law was not a bad person; she simply wanted the privacy and independence that many young couples desire.
At the same time, she understood the son's sense of duty towards his aging parents.
Bushra said such situations are becoming increasingly common and reflect the difficult choices many families face as expectations around marriage, independence and joint family living continue to evolve in Pakistani society.
