Pakistani actress Momina Iqbal has broken her silence after a viral clip from outside of Punjab Assembly reignited debate over her ongoing legal case, firmly rejecting speculation of any reconciliation while objecting to her harassment allegations being described as a "personal matter."
The controversy erupted after a television reporter questioned PML-N MPA Saqib Khaddar about the case outside the Punjab Assembly. Visibly upset by the question, the lawmaker responded that the media should "stay away from my personal life" and limit its questions to Assembly-related matters.
Shortly after the clip went viral, Momina took to her Instagram Stories to share the video alongside a detailed statement, making it clear that years of alleged harassment and death threats cannot be reduced to a private dispute.
"Declaring years of harassment and death threats a 'personal matter' is astonishing. Even today, I am surprised by the audacity with which this case has been labelled a personal issue from the very beginning," she wrote.
The actress said she had approached state institutions seeking protection and justice against harassment and alleged death threats, questioning how such serious accusations could ever be categorized as a personal issue.
She further argued that if such allegations were considered private matters, then domestic violence, murders committed by relatives, and other grave crimes would also have to be treated the same way, something she described as completely unacceptable.
Momina also alleged that repeated efforts had been made to keep the case out of the media spotlight and suppress her voice. However, she stressed that her silence should never be mistaken for weakness or the result of pressure.
"I have remained patient because I fully respect the legal process. I have complete faith in the judiciary, the rule of law, and decisions made on merit. My silence should never be interpreted as pressure or weakness," she stated.
Addressing widespread speculation on social media, the actress once again dismissed reports that the dispute had been resolved.
"I want to clarify once again that no reconciliation has taken place. The matter remains under trial before the court, while the other side continues to seek adjournments from one hearing to the next," she wrote.
Momina concluded by saying she had deliberately chosen the legal route to seek justice, expressing confidence that the facts would eventually emerge through the judicial process.
Earlier, Momina Iqbal's legal counsel claimed that the actress and the accused had known each other since 2022 and that a marriage proposal had been sent to her family. According to the lawyer, Momina later discovered he was already married and allegedly intended to enter into a third marriage, prompting her to reject the proposal and end all contact. The lawyer further alleged that following her refusal, the actress began receiving threats, leading her to pursue legal action. The case remains pending before the court.
