At least eight people were killed and 16 others injured in rain-related incidents across Pakistan during the past 24 hours, taking the nationwide death toll from the ongoing monsoon season to 57 since June 26, according to the National Disaster Management Authority.
The NDMA's latest situation report said a total of 148 people have been injured in rain and flood-related incidents across the country during the current monsoon spell.
According to the authority, the deceased include 22 children, 18 men and 17 women.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has reported the highest number of fatalities with 35 deaths, followed by Punjab (10), Azad Jammu and Kashmir (7) and Balochistan (5).
Punjab has recorded the highest number of injuries at 72, followed by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (61), Balochistan (13) and Azad Kashmir (2).
The NDMA said monsoon rains have also caused widespread damage to homes and infrastructure across the country.
A total of 270 houses have been damaged so far, while 189 livestock have perished in flood-related incidents.
The report said 4.5 kilometres of roads have also been damaged due to heavy rains, flash floods and landslides, affecting transport and access in several areas.
According to the NDMA, eight deaths and 16 injuries were reported during the last 24 hours, with casualties occurring in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab and Azad Kashmir.
The authority said its National Emergencies Operation Centre is continuously monitoring the evolving weather situation and coordinating with provincial disaster management authorities to support rescue and relief operations.
The NDMA urged provincial administrations and the public to remain vigilant, particularly in areas vulnerable to flash floods, urban flooding, landslides and glacial lake outburst floods, and advised people to follow official advisories and avoid unnecessary travel in affected areas.
