Six police personnel have been arrested for alleged negligence after four undertrial prisoners managed to escape from the lockup facility at Lahore’s Cantt Court, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Tuesday.
According to police, the detained officials have taken into custody included Judicial Moharrir Falak Sher, Deputy Moharrir Gul Baz, along with Irfan, Qaiser, Wajid, and handcuff checker Afzal.
According to police officials, the action was taken on the directives of Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Operations Faisal Kamran, and the detained personnel have been confined in the police lockup pending further proceedings.
The North Cantonment Police have also registered a case against the officials accused of negligence. The FIR was filed at Misri Shah Police Station on the complaint of Sub-Inspector Syed Hammad Hussain, currently serving at Harbanspura Police Station.
The complainant stated in the FIR that he reached Cantt Court after being informed about the escape of four prisoners from the court’s Bakshi Khana. The escaped suspects were identified as Riaz, Hassan, Vicky, and Muhammad Ashfaq.
According to the registered case, police managed to apprehend Riaz after pursuing him, while efforts were continuing to trace and arrest the other three fugitives.
The FIR revealed that Riaz was facing a drug-related case registered at Harbanspura Police Station. Hassan is nominated in a murder case at Hudiara Police Station, while Vicky is accused in a narcotics case registered at Hair Police Station. Muhammad Ashfaq is facing charges in an illegal weapons case at the same police station.
Authorities have intensified their search operation for the remaining escaped suspects, and an inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the incident is in progress.
