Khanpur police have rescued a woman who was allegedly kept chained and confined for several years by her brothers in an alleged attempt to seize her share of family property, 24NewsHD TV reported on Tuesday.
According to police, the incident came to light in the jurisdiction of Saddar Police Station after residents alerted authorities.
With the help of the community, police raided the house located in the Chak 107 NP area and rescued the woman from illegal confinement.
Residents told police that the suspects had subjected the woman to physical abuse and, whenever neighbours questioned her screams and cries, claimed that she was mentally ill.
DSP Shahid Nazir Warraich said a case has been registered on the complaint of the victim's husband.
During the operation, one suspect, identified as Mehboob, was arrested, while the woman's brother Akram and nephew Shafeeq managed to escape.
He said police have launched raids to arrest the absconding suspects.
