Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) Lahore has approved the bail of PTI vice president Shah Mehmood Qureshi in the Shadman Police Station arson case on May 9, reported 24NewsHDTV Channel.
ATC Judge Manzar Ali Gull after hearing arguments of both sides tomorrow. The court granted bail to Shah Mehmood Qureshi against surety bonds of one lakh rupees. The decision on bail in the case of burning a police vehicle near Jinnah House will be made on June 26. Rana Mudassar Umar Advocate completed arguments on behalf of Shah Mehmood Qureshi.
The charge of May 9 conspiracy against Shah Mehmood Qureshi is not proven, his counsel Rana Mudassar Umar told the court.
The lawyers said there is no mention of conspiracy in the FIR, adding that PTI leader Shah Mahmood Qureshi was in Karachi on May 9 for his wife's treatment. Qureshi was arrested after a delay of 13 months. The counsel said if Qureshi had any role in May 9, why wasn't he arrested earlier. Qureshi’s counsel said the bail has been granted to the co-accused in the cases therefore Shah Mahmood Qureshi's bail application should be approved. Shah Mehmood Qureshi has filed bail in the case of burning a police vehicle near Jinnah House. The cases include provisions of sedition and inciting public riots.
Meanwhile, Anti-Terrorism Court conducted hearing on bail application of PTI leader and former Governor Punjab Omar Sarfraz Cheema in five cases related to May 9 tragedy, reported 24NewsHDTV Channel.
Anti-Terrorism Court Admin Judge Manzar Ali Gul conducted the hearing. Hassan Yousuf Shah appeared for arguments on behalf of PTI leader.
During the hearing, the prosecution seeks time to submit case records as case records have been sent to the Lahore High Court.The court directed the prosecution to complete its record on next hearing by June 24.
Umar Sarfaraz Cheema had filed bail in the cases of police vehicles in Mughalpura, Zaman Park and Chowk near Jinnah House. Umar Sarfaraz Cheema has been granted bail in Shadman arson case.
