British High Commissioner to Pakistan Jane Marriott has said that she reached a consensus with Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif and Punjab Assembly Speaker Malik Muhammad Ahmed Khan on expanding UK-Pakistan bilateral cooperation.
Taking to the social media platform X on Wednesday, Jane Marriott shared details of her important meetings in Lahore. She emphasised that the United Kingdom and Pakistan are already collaborating across multiple sectors, including the environment, education, and trade—and that there was mutual agreement to further deepen this partnership.
The British envoy stated, “The UK and Pakistan cooperate on many issues, including the environment, education and trade. I was pleased to have important discussions in Lahore on expanding our work together.”
As previously reported by 24NewsHD TV, the British High Commissioner called on Punjab Assembly Speaker Malik Muhammad Ahmed Khan on Tuesday at the Punjab Assembly.
The meeting focused on women’s rights, democratic stability, economic progress, legislative reforms, and increased parliamentary cooperation.
Speaker Malik Ahmed Khan thanked the UK government for its constructive diplomatic role in promoting regional peace and noted that Pakistan's primary focus remains economic development and democratic governance.
He also briefed the British delegation on the legislative processes, committee structures, and the historic traditions of the Punjab Assembly.
Jane Marriott acknowledged the speaker's vision and reiterated the UK's dedication to fostering long-term relations with Pakistan.
She assured that the UK will continue working with Pakistan for regional stability, peace, and mutual prosperity.
The meeting was also attended by British Political Counsellor Zoe Ware and Head of the Lahore Office Ben Warrington.
