A resolution was submitted in the Punjab Assembly (PA) on Wednesday, supporting General Asim Munir's elevation to the field marshal’s rank, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
The resolution, submitted by PML-N MPA Hina Pervaiz Butt, said that this House welcomed the appointment of Gen Munir as the field marshal, and completely supported the federal cabinet’s decision in this regard.
It was further stated that the country’s armed forces emerged victorious in the war against India under the leadership of Gen Munir, and the people of Pakistan were completely satisfied with their performance.
The resolution also stated that the House expressed the hope that Gen Munir would meet the expectations of the masses.
The resolution stated that the House prayed to the Almighty Allah to grant success to the armed forces under the leadership of Field Marshal General Asim Munir.
The federal cabinet had on Tuesday approved the promotion of Chief of Army Staff General Syed Asim Munir (Nishan-e-Imtiaz Military) to the rank of the Field Marshal, in recognition of his extraordinary military leadership during Operation Bunyanum Marsus, which resulted in a decisive victory for Pakistan during the recent conflict with India.
The decision was made during a high-level meeting of the federal cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, who also personally congratulated the nation on the successful defence of the country and the failure of the enemy's aggressive designs during what he called the “Maarka-e-Haq.”
The cabinet acknowledged that Pakistan recently passed through one of the most difficult phases in its history. On the night of May 6 and 7, 2025, India launched an unprovoked and unjustified war, blatantly violating Pakistan’s sovereignty and targeting innocent civilians, including women and children.
Commenting on the cabinet's decision, General Munir said he was honoured that he had been chosen for such an esteemed position.
