Karachi police arrested two members of a gang involved in stealing cars from the city and selling them in Balochistan, 24NewsHD TV channel reported on Sunday.
According to the Anti-Vehicle Lifting Cell (AVLC), one of the arrested suspects revealed that after being released from jail, he transferred more than 20 stolen vehicles to Balochistan.
Police officials also disclosed that the suspect’s father had previously been arrested in cases related to terrorism and theft. Police confirmed that his criminal record included seven cases registered in different police stations.
The second suspect was identified as an expert in removing trackers from stolen cars. Both men were arrested in Orangi Town following a police encounter.
Investigations further revealed that the gang included additional car thieves and buyers from Balochistan. During the operation, police recovered a stolen car and weapons from the suspects.
The arrested individuals were identified as Saqib Qureshi and his accomplice, Naeemul Hasan. According to the AVLC spokesperson, Saqib Qureshi had smuggled more than 20 stolen vehicles to Balochistan after his release from prison, while Naeemul Hasan specialised in disabling car trackers.
Officials added that a Suzuki Mehran, bearing registration number AUX-383, stolen from the Garden Police Station’s jurisdiction, was recovered along with arms. Both suspects, injured during the shootout, were shifted to a hospital for medical treatment.
The AVLC confirmed that raids are underway to arrest the remaining gang members. Saqib Qureshi has seven cases registered against him at different police stations, and records of his repeated offences have surfaced. Cases regarding the encounter, along with possession of weapons, have been registered at the Iqbal Market Police Station.
