An Additional Sessions Court in Liaquatpur has sentenced the prime accused in the notorious Malikpur case, involving the severing of a man’s nose and lips in the name of honour, to 21 years in prison and imposed a fine of Rs19.3 million, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
Additional Sessions Judge Muhammad Mahmood Ghani announced the verdict in Case No. 976/24, registered at Shaidani Sharif Police Station on Monday.
Convict Muhammad Majid was sentenced to 21 years in prison along with a fine of Rs19.3 million. Four other accused – Attaullah, Zahoor Ahmed, Shakeel Baloch and Ghulam Muhammad Naich – were each sentenced to 14 years in jail.
According to the case, the accused had publicly severed the nose and lips of complainant Bashir Ahmed Naich two years ago, in the name of honour. A case was subsequently registered at Shaidani Police Station.
The court’s verdict was welcomed in the region, with the judgment being described locally as a significant example of justice being served.
