Opposition Leader in Senate Allama Raja Nasir Abbas Monday called for negotiations between the government and opposition, urging Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to constitute a committee of political leaders to initiate talks, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
Allama Nasir Abbas said both the government and opposition should form negotiating teams to find solutions to the country’s political difficulties. He said political issues could be resolved if committees from both sides sat together, adding that solutions would emerge through dialogue among political leaders.
“The doors for negotiations remain open on our end,” he said, adding that the government could meet the opposition today or at any other time.
Meanwhile, Vice Chairman of the Tehreek-e-Tahaffuz-e-Ain-e-Pakistan, Mustafa Nawaz Khokhar, met with Opposition Leader Allama Raja Nasir Abbas. The meeting expressed concern over the country’s political situation, the arrests of parliamentarians, and the arrest of Aleema Khan.
The Tehreek-e-Tahaffuz-e-Ain condemned Aleema Khan’s arrest, stating that political workers and parliamentarians were being targeted through arrests and state coercion.
The movement issued a statement expressing that Imran Khan had been imprisoned earlier and that the women from his family were now being targeted for political revenge. It said Aleema Khan had neither picked up a gun nor thrown a stone, adding that targeting a housewife for political revenge crossed moral and democratic boundaries.
The movement also condemned the arrest of political workers and the blocking of highways with containers in response to a peaceful protest, saying such measures were further poisoning the political atmosphere.
It demanded the immediate release of all political workers, including Aleema Khan, and said it would not compromise on the constitution, law, or democratic freedoms.
