Punjab Traffic Police has cancelled 1,800 driving licences and temporarily suspended 414 others across the province as part of measures to control road accidents, reported 24NewsHD TV.
According to traffic police, the action was taken on Monday, against drivers involved in dangerous and rash driving during the current year.
The cancelled licences include 46 HPSV, 58 HTV, 43 LTV and nine LTV-PSV licences.
Meanwhile, 42 car and 144 motorcycle licences were also cancelled over violations involving dangerous driving. Nine commercial tractor licences were cancelled as well.
The traffic police said 1,449 licences from other categories were cancelled for dangerous driving.
Licences of 414 drivers involved in serious accidents were temporarily suspended.
Punjab DIG Traffic Waqas Nazir has directed officials to ensure strict implementation of traffic laws across the province.
He said a zero-tolerance policy would be adopted against rash driving and violations leading to fatal accidents, adding that licences would be cancelled immediately in case of serious violations.
